When Ohio State Buckeyes star defensive end Jack Sawyer arrived in Columbus following the 2020 college football season, the Buckeyes hadn’t lost to the archrival Michigan Wolverines in a decade. But Sawyer during his time at Ohio State, Sawyer has now lost three consecutive games to the Wolverines. And he’s not happy about it.
During a recent interview at Big Ten Media Days, Jack Sawyer got brutally honest about the recent losses to Michigan as he made it clear that the feels like the team has let Ohio State fans down by allowing Michigan to turn the tide in the rivalry.
“When I committed to Ohio State, we had just played in a national championship,” Sawyer said according to Eleven Warriors. “Coming off of three or four Big Ten championship wins, haven’t lost to ‘The Team Up North’ in eight, nine years. And then when my class gets there, it kind of reverses. And I think for me, being the type of guy I am, I think naturally I felt like we let, I let not only Ryan Day down, but I let the city down.
“So for me, it’s all about coming back. And a lot of us, we all feel the same way, too, is that we can’t, we weren’t gonna leave here without having one more shot at doing this the right way and leaving here better than what we came here for.”
Sawyer now has one last chance to taste victory against the Wolverines in the rivalry. We’ll have to see whether or not they can do it.
