The Wisconsin Badgers have fallen short of expectations since hiring Luke Fickell as the head coach.
The Badgers are 5-4 this season, and now have another distraction on their plate as they work to reach bowl eligibility. Former NFL head coach and current Wisconsin assistant coach Jack Del Rio was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated over the weekend, according to WKOW.
The incident happened just past midnight, according to the official incident report.
“A vehicle hit a street sign, broke a fence and came to a rest in a yard during a crash early Friday morning.
“Officers were dispatched to the area of S. Segoe Rd. and Keating Terrace around 12:35 a.m.
“Witnesses directed officers to the driver who was walking away from the area.
“The driver showed signs of impairment. He also admitted to driving.
“No injuries were reported.
“Jack L. Del Rio, 61, was arrested for first-offense OWI and released to a responsible party,” detailed the report.
Del Rio joined the Wisconsin staff before the start of the 2024 season.
Del Rio previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders from 2020-23 and before that been on coaching staffs for multiple teams in the NFL, including the Oakland Raiders, Denver Broncos, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Carolina Panthers.
It’ll be interesting to see what the school has to say about the situation.
