Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes are appointment viewing.
Sanders has the Buffaloes back to national relevancy, thanks in no small part to the off-the-field antics of him and his star quarterback son, Shedeur Sanders. This has resulted in many of the Buffaloes’ opponents disrespecting or taking shots at Colorado, but not everyone is taking this approach.
University of Central Florida head coach Guz Malzahn, who is preparing to face Sanders and the Buffaloes this weekend, has had his eye on Colorado, and he did not hold back his praise for Sanders as he admitted that he’s liked what he’s seen.
“Watched them Saturday night, real impressive win and the way they won. You look at their offense, they have playmakers,” Malzahn said according to Athlon Sports. “I think it starts with their quarterback. He does a good job of throwing the ball vertically down the field and he can extend plays. He’s been very impressive throwing to his right and his left. He’s got speed at receiver and some playmakers at the skill positions.
“What I admire about him is that he does it his way. This is a deal where you look at college football as entertainment and the juice and attention he brings to our league I think is really good. He does it his way and I’m an old high school coach so I do it my way; I’m a little bit different, too. He has his team playing well and he’s doing a good job.”
It’s clear UCF and Malzahn aren’t underestimating the Buffaloes like so many others.
Sanders hasn’t sounded off on Malzahn thus far into the week so the respect appears to be mutual.
Still, it’ll be interesting to see how things play out, as the Buffaloes are 14.5-point underdogs going into the matchup.
