Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders will be back with the team this season, but his father and head coach Deion Sanders thinks that he could have gone to the NFL Draft this offseason. In fact, Deion Sanders seems to think that his son would have been one of the top quarterbacks taken.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Deion Sanders claimed that Shedeur Sanders “probably” would have been the second quarterback selected in the upcoming NFL Draft had he decided to leave Colorado.
“He wouldn’t have been the first quarterback off the board. I think he had the ability but he probably would have been the second quarterback off the board,” Sanders said Wednesday according to The Athletic.
Caleb Williams is widely expected to be the first quarterback selected. But Deion seems to think that Shedeur would have been selected immediately after him, before players like Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels.
“The only reason I know that, don’t you think I know people in the NFL? I’m sorry, I played for how many years, 14? Got a gold jacket at the crib, I think. I think I know some people. Jerry Jones. Arthur Blank. I know some people in the game. Roger Goodell. So when I speak I’m not just throwing stuff out of my head. I’m throwing stuff based on knowledge. So let’s just get that straight,” Sanders said.
It’s obviously a bold claim, but Deion has never been shy about praising his son.
