When Nick Saban shockingly announced his retirement from the Alabama Crimson Tide on Wednesday evening, many expected that Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning would be his most likely replacement, with some reports suggesting Alabama was targeting him immediately. But he has made it clear that he won’t be taking the job.
In response to the speculation that he could be the next head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide and replace Nick Saban, Dan Lanning posted a video on social media where he announced that he will be remaining with the Oregon Ducks.
In the video, Lanning claimed that he plans to stay at Oregon “for as long as Eugene will have me.”

“I want to be here in Eugene for as long as Eugene will have me,” Lanning said in a voiceover in the video. “This place has everything that I could possibly ever want. This is a little bit of a problem in society today with people looking for what’s next and whether it’s an opportunity, and the reality is the grass is not always greener. In fact the grass is damned green in Eugene.”
Lanning has quickly developed a reputation as one of the top coaches in college football, but it’s clear that he will not be following in Saban’s footsteps at Alabama. The Crimson Tide will have to find somebody else.
