The Ohio State Buckeyes and Texas Longhorns are gearing up to clash in the Cotton Bowl Classic on Friday evening, a marquee event of the College Football Playoff semifinals. However, impending inclement weather in the Dallas area could pose significant challenges.
The Dallas Dallas area is predicted to experience temperatures in the 30s accompanied by a wintry mix and an 83 percent chance of precipitation on Thursday. Conditions are expected to deteriorate further on Friday, the day of the game.
Friday’s forecast predicts temperatures dropping as low as 25 degrees, with strong winds and morning snow showers. Some models even indicate the possibility of up to 12 inches of snow in the region.
Although the game itself will take place indoors, shielded from the elements under AT&T Stadium’s roof, the severe weather could complicate travel for fans, teams, and everyone else involved in the event.
For now, however, the Cotton Bowl says that the game is set to remain on schedule.
On Tuesday, Cotton Bowl officials issued a statement affirming that the game is set to go on as scheduled, but emphasized that they “continues to monitor” the weather.
“We continue to monitor weather reports, and over the last 24 hours, the forecast for later this week has improved according to the National Weather Service,” the Cotton Bowl said in a statement Tuesday evening according to Eleven Warriors.
“We have been meeting routinely with city officials, the Director of Transportation for North Texas and the College Football Playoff. Should the forecast shift, we are prepared for all contingencies. North Texas highways are already being brined and plans are in place to assure a safe environment for everyone in and around AT&T Stadium on game day. The teams arrive tomorrow, as planned, and the 2025 CFP Semifinal at the 89th Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic will kick off on Friday evening as scheduled.”
The game is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. As of now, it appears that the game is set to go on as scheduled.
The winner of Friday night’s game will take on the winner of Thursday night’s game between Penn State and Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff championship game.
