Iowa Hawkeyes superstar Caitlin Clark played the final home game of her career on Monday night when the Hawkeyes hosted the West Virginia Mountaineers in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. And she was able to treat fans to one more broken record.
During Monday night’s game, Caitlin Clark broke the record for the most points scored in a single season, surpassing the record previously held by Washington‘s Kelsey Plum who had 1,113 points. After the game, Clark opened up about just how special it was to break the record and play for Iowa throughout her career.
“I know I’ve given everything to this program,” Clark said in a postgame interview with ESPN’s Holly Rowe, according to On3. “There is a lot to be proud of. There were a lot of highs, a lot of lows. That’s what make these moments so special. And I’m just thankful, I’m grateful. Just going to soak this in.”
Clark was able to guide the Hawkeyes to a hard-fought victory over the Mountaineers on Monday night as Iowa clinched a spot in the Sweey 16 once again.
The team is looking to make a run at an NCAA title and avenge their championship game loss last season.
