Arch Manning Syndication: Austin American-Statesman

Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian has made it very clear throughout the season that Quinn Ewers is the team’s starting quarterback and Arch Manning is the backup. But it sounds like there’s a very real chance that the team could need Manning to play this week in a pivotal rivalry showdown with the Texas A&M Aggies.

During Saturday’s game against the Kentucky Wildcats, starting quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered an ankle injury. While he returned and finished the game, it’s clear that the injury was painful and was expected to linger.

“It’s just a little tender. Just gonna do as much treatment as I can,” Ewers said after the game according to On3. “It was around the 50-yard line and I stepped up and kind of took off running a little bit and then kind of got hip-drop tackled. And I think he kind of just rolled up on it a little, but it’s football and stuff like that happens.”

According to a report from Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods.com, the injury was concerning enough that Ewers actually received a “precautionary MRI” to determine the extent of the injury.

“Texas QB Quinn Ewers will undergo a precautionary MRI on Sunday after injuring his ankle against Kentucky, according to my sources. Everyone close to the situation is cautiously optimistic Ewers does not have any structural damage and will only need ankle treatments this week,” Richardson said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Richardson went on to report that Ewers ” only has a mild ankle sprain and will be good to go for Texas A&M on Saturday,” but it’s not clear just how much the injury will impact Ewers’ ability to perform in the game. Plus, it opens himself up to a possible re-injury.

Needless to say, it’s pretty shocking news that Manning could be forced to play in one of the most important games of the year for Texas, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.

“Sark like thank God my back up has won me a few games and is very competent,” one fan wrote on X.

“This is where having a Manning can benefit Texas the most. They won’t treat them like FSU because of it,” another fan added.

“I thought it was real wild he kept playing Saturday..” another fan wrote.

“This is big news for Texas. If Ewers is out they can finally play their best QB!” another fan joked.

“If true and Arch has to start going forward, give me Texas winning the Championship. Ewers been holding that offense back,” someone else said.

“Arch Manning coming in to lead Texas to a Natty would be wild,” another fan added.

We’ll have to see whether or not Texas does indeed turn to Manning in the game.
