With so many top college football teams in need of a starting quarterback ahead of the 2024 college football season, many have speculated that five-star freshman quarterback Arch Manning could choose to transfer from the Texas Longhorns and start elsewhere. But it doesn’t sound like that’s the plan.
According to national college football reporter Chris Hummer of 247Sports, Arch Manning is “perfectly happy” at Texas and is expected to return to the Texas Longhorns for the 2024 college football season, even with starting quarterback Quinn Ewers expected to return for another season with Texas.
“Obviously, Arch Manning is the name that looms above it all — everybody’s interested in Arch,” Hummer said. “Based on everything we’ve heard, Arch is perfectly happy at Texas. I think the expectation is he will be back in 2024. The real question mark in the room is what happens with Quinn Ewers and what happens with Maalik Murphy. Matt’s reported it before, and a lot of us have been hearing similar things, about Quinn being likely to return to Texas in 2024. But you never know what happens during a College Football Playoff run. He just had the best game of his career, in the Big 12 Championship Game, and we’ll see how he plays during the stretch run for Texas. That could impact his decision.”
Manning was considered the No. 1 overall player in the 2023 high school recruiting class, but it sounds like he’ll be waiting a little bit longer before getting his chance as a starting quarterback.
