Arch Manning probably thought he’d be starting at Texas by now. But if things go according to head coach Steve Sarkisian’s plan this fall, Manning will likely be on the bench behind presumptive starter Quinn Ewers.
Given that this is a new era of college football, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that a player of Manning’s caliber would transfer in search of more playing time.
But Manning says he’s sticking with the Longhorns in a new interview with Larry Holder of The Athletic.
“It’s tough because you want to be out there playing with your boys,” Manning said, “But [it came down to] just realizing there’s nowhere else I want to be, and it was my dream to play at Texas. I’m going to stick it out and play there eventually.”
Ewers, for his part, thinks the patience will pay dividends for Manning’s career in the future.
“I think he understands that what he’s got here is he’s gonna be the most ready whenever he goes to the NFL,” Ewers said. “I think [Steve Sarkisian] does the best job getting quarterbacks ready for the NFL and developing guys. [Manning will] be playing in his third year. He’ll be more than comfortable in operating the offense, and it’s just a really good fit for him.”
