Arch Manning Scott Wachter-USA TODAY Sports

Five-star quarterback Arch Manning signed with the Texas Longhorns as the highest-rated overall player in the 2023 high school recruiting class, but he has yet to play a single snap for the team this season with returning starter Quinn Ewers leading the way for the team this year. But unfortunately for Manning, he won’t be starting this week even with Ewers out.

Starting quarterback Quinn Ewers is out for the Longhorns this week after suffering a shoulder injury last week. But even though Arch Manning got first-team reps this week in practice and had a chance to earn the starting role in place of Ewers, that role will go to second-year quarterback Maalik Murphy instead.

“Maalik’s going to start the game and go play in this game,” Texas head coach Sarkisian announced on Thursday afternoon according to On3. “I haven’t made a decision if I want to get Arch in there just to get him in there or not, but we have discussed that some because I do think there’s some valuable experience for him in that. But, I have to make that’s in the best interest of the team.”

The college football world had a lot to say about Murphy starting over Manning.

We’ll have to see if Manning sees the field on Saturday afternoon despite not earning the start.
