While Arch Manning has shined the past few weeks playing in place of Texas Longhorns starting quarterback Quinn Ewers, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has made it clear that Ewers will be the team’s starting quarterback when he returns from his injury. But some seem to think that’s a mistake.
During a press conference this week, Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian that Quinn Ewers will once again be the team’s starting quarterback over Arch Manning once he is healthy, and he indicated that Ewers is expected to return from his injury this week.
“You know, Quinn has earned and deserved that right to be our starting quarterback,” Sarkisian said this week according to On3.
“Arch has continued to work really hard. Like I said, we’re fortunate to have him and the player that he is, the leader that he is as well.”
It’s a pretty firm statement from Sarkisian, but not everyone is happy about it.
The announcement quickly sparked outrage around the college football world from fans who believe that Manning actually gives the team the best chance to win.
“Sark is stupid, he learned nothing from Saban. This is why tx never has qbs that come in & succeed previous qb with no issue. There should be qb comps. Saban had no problem playing the best qb,” one fan wrote on social media.
“Arch is a much harder QB to defend due to his running ability!” another fan added.
“Manning is better,” another fan said.
“Nobody wants to see Ewers; they want to see Manning… period. But if you want to lose to OU, go ahead and play the ‘Damaged Goods’ Ewers,” another fan said.
“Arch gives them the best chance,” another fan said.
“This is good news for OU,” another fan quipped.
We’ll have to see how Ewers performs when he returns.
