As we head into the 2024 NCAA Tournament, CBS Sports asked the head coach of each team in the field for their favorite musical artists. And it sounds like there is one Swiftie in the mix: BYU Cougars head coach Mark Pope.
In the survey, Mark Pope listed Taylor Swift as his favorite artist, and there’s a pretty heartwarming reason why.
Pope chose Swift as his top artist “primarily because he says his daughters’ massive fandom has rubbed off on him and it’s now the music that brings him the most joy because it brings his girls the most joy,” according to CBS Sports.
But that doesn’t mean he isn’t a proper Swiftie himself, because he was able to list his five favorite songs – and the first two are deep cuts that Swift has not even been performing as part of her regular set on her Eras Tour.
Here are Pope’s top five Taylor Swift songs:
- Cornelia Street
- New Year’s Day
- Karma
- All Too Well (10 Minute Version)
- Cruel Summer”
So if there are any Swifties looking for a team to support throughout March Madness this year, it sounds like Pope and his BYU Cougars would be a good pick.
We’ll have to see how the tournament goes for them.
