Iowa Hawkeyes superstar Caitlin Clark has already set numerous records during her time in college basketball, even becoming the all-time leading scorer in NCAA history earlier this season. But she set yet another record on Monday night.
During Monday night’s showdown against the West Virginia Mountaineers in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Caitlin Clark broke the NCAA record for the most points scored in a single season, surpassing the record previously held by Washington‘s Kelsey Plum who had 1,113 points.
“I know I’ve given everything to this program,” Clark said in a postgame interview with ESPN’s Holly Rowe, according to On3. “There is a lot to be proud of. There were a lot of highs, a lot of lows. That’s what make these moments so special. And I’m just thankful, I’m grateful. Just going to soak this in.”
Clark has not finished a game with fewer than 20 points yet in the entire season, with her season-low being 21 points during a game against Florida Golf Coast earlier this season.
Most importantly, Clark was able to lead her Iowa Hawkeyes team to victory against the Mountaineers as they clinched a spot in the Sweet 16, continuing their quest for an NCAA title.
