Iowa Hawkeyes superstar Caitlin Clark has already established herself as one of the most dominant players in the history of women’s college basketball, but South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley seems to think there’s one thing that would put her over the top: a national title.
As Dawn Staley and her Gamecocks prepare to take on Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes in the NCAA title game this weekend, Staley made it pretty clear that she thinks Clark needs to win a championship to solidify her legacy.
“I was really good in college. Never won a championship,” Staley told reporters Saturday morning according to On3. “Yeah, you’ve got to win a championship. You’ve got to win a championship. That’s me, personally. I had a great career. But it’s always, did you win a championship? Went to the Final Four three times. We never won. I agree with Stewie when it comes to winning a championship. If we’re gonna talk about GOATs, I think she’s the GOAT – to be able to win four national championships and to be MVP. I think she was MVP all four times.
“If Caitlin wins a championship, she’s pretty damn good. She’s the GOAT. I mean, she’s pretty damn good regardless. But winning a championship would seal the deal. I hope to the dear Lord she doesn’t.”
We’ll have to see what happens.
