Iowa Hawkeyes superstar Caitlin Clark is the most prolific scorer in school history, but one of her most brilliant plays in Friday night’s Final Four win over the UConn Huskies had nothing to do with scoring.
With 1.1 seconds left on the clock and Iowa up by two points, Caitlin Clark had to inbound the ball underneath her own basket as the Hawkeyes tried to seal the game. But instead of passing the ball inbounds to one of her teammates, Clark took a different approach and made an absolutely brilliant play.
As soon as the referee handed Clark the ball, Clark threw the ball off the backside of UConn Huskies star Paige Bueckers, allowing it to roll out of bounds once again. But most importantly, it took some valuable time off the clock.

By the time the ball landed out of bounds once again, one second had come off the clock, leaving just 0.1 seconds left in the game. With such little time and Iowa holding the ball, UConn had no chance of making a comeback.
While it’s likely the Hawkeyes would have won the game even if Clark didn’t pull off this move, it was still an absolutely brilliant play that sealed the game for the Hawkeyes.
