Texas Players meet on the mound as the Longhorns play Sam Houston at UFCU Disch–Falk Field on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

The Texas A&M Aggies baseball team lost in the Men’s College World Series on Monday night. To make matters worse, they now need a new manager. And to make matters even worse, they lost their coach to rival Texas.

The Longhorns will hire Jim Schlossnagle to be their next baseball coach. After rumors swirled over the past few days that this would happen, it’s now a reality.

Texas reporter Chip Brown reported the news on Tuesday.

“Jim Schlossnagle is leaving College Station to become the new baseball coach of the Texas Longhorns,” Brown said on X.

Scholossnagle gained fame in the state of Texas, but not with the Longhorns or even the Aggies. From 2004 to 2021, he served as the head coach for the TCU Horned Frogs baseball team. He made nine consecutive trips to the NCAA Baseball Tournament with the Horned Frogs from 2004 to 2012, and then four consecutive trips to the College World Series from 2014 to 2017. The Aggies reached the College World Series two times in the last three years, including their runner-up finish in 2024.

But that’s where it all comes to an end. Schlossnagle now goes to the biggest school in Texas after hitting two of the other most prominent ones. Depending on who you root for, your reaction to this varied.
