Earlier this month, PGA Tour star Scottie Scheffler was arrested outside of Valhalla Golf Club as he tried to enter for the PGA Championship. The charges against Scheffler have been dropped, but the arresting officer has since faced a lot of criticism from Scheffler’s attorney, and he is clearly not happy about it.
Louisville Metro Police Detective Bryan Gillis who claimed that Scheffler’s SUV accelerated and dragged him to the ground, ripping his $80 pants and causing pain, swelling, and abrasions to his left wrist and knee. The problem is, the videos of the incident do not show this at all, and Scheffler’s lawyer Steve Romines called out Gillis for apparently lying. And Gillis responded on Wednesday.
“It was unfortunate and disturbing to hear Steve Romines’ commentary today claiming that a ‘false arrest’ was made and for him to challenge my honesty and integrity. I’d be surprised and disappointed if Mr. Scheffler actually had any part in making those statements,” Gillis said.

“To be clear, I was drug by the car, I went to the ground, and I received visible injuries to my knees and wrist. I’m going to recover from it, and it will be ok. This is the extent of my commentary on the incident. The reality is that there are more important things in the world right now than a back-and-forth over this. A person lost his life that day, and a family lost a loved one.”
Gillis also insists that his pants did indeed cost $80 and they were indeed ripped.
“Yes, the department has us buying freaking $80 pants. To those concerned, they were indeed ruined. But Scottie, it’s all good. I never would’ve guessed I’d have the most famous pair of pants in the country for a few weeks because of this,” Gillis said.
Gillis did indicate that he had no ill will toward Scheffler, but it doesn’t sound like he’s happy with Scheffler’s attorney.
