Unless Dak Prescott signs a new contract with the Dallas Cowboys at some point in the next several months, he is set to become a free agent during the offseason in 2025. Things seem to be headed in that direction, but it doesn’t sound like the Cowboys have ruled out the possibility of signing him to a new contract just yet. In fact, they’re calling those negotiations “a priority.”
During a recent appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones addressed the team’s quarterback situation going forward, making it clear that he and the team see Prescott as a “priority.”
“Certainly, Dak is a priority in terms of his contract,” Jones said according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. “Certainly, we’ll be taking a look at Trey. I know Trey will look at his situation as well, in terms of what his options are. I’m sure a lot of that will depend on how everything works out with Dak. Cooper has been a strong backup here for us. But all of those things will just have to play out.”
It’s a pretty bold statement to make about Prescott, especially considering the team has shown no urgency to sign Prescott to an extension.
Needless to say, Cowboys fans are not happy about this situation.
Sure it is. L O L.

It sure is, a priority to be over so Dallas can move on

If it was a priority we wouldn't be entering this season in complete limbo

Actions speak louder than words. I want to see Dak Prescott borrow a page from Russell Wilson's reported 2019 negotiating playbook & tell Dallas if a deal isn't done by a certain date, there won't ever be anymore contract talks. I'm curious how Jerry Jones would react to that. https://t.co/D9MalGxegA

Such a priority that they pushed it off until April https://t.co/agtbXxIzS3

We’ll have to see whether or not the Cowboys and Prescott can come to an agreement in the next few months. Otherwise, he’ll be a free agent next year.
