The Kansas City Chiefs made life easier for their first-round pick this week. Kansas City and former Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy have agreed to terms on the rookie’s first contract.

The first-rounder with blazing speed agreed to terms on the standard 4-year deal with a fifth-year option.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the news of Worthy’s signing. No concrete terms were disclosed.

Worthy was an accomplished receiver at the University of Texas. In three years, he totaled 197 receptions, 2,755 yards, and 26 receiving touchdowns. As a freshman, Worthy scored a career-high 12 touchdowns, so he certainly knows how to get to the end zone. That’s fantastic news for the Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who also has shown no issue in getting the ball to the end zone throughout his illustrious NFL career.

Worthy joins the Chiefs at a fascinating time. Kansas City defeated the San Francisco 49ers earlier this year in Super Bowl LVIII. They repeated as champions after defeating the Philadelphia Eagles in last year’s Super Bowl. So in 2024, they will seek an elusive three-peat. Whether Worthy winds up being an impact player in his first year is yet to be seen, but he certainly couldn’t have gone to a better situation. So perhaps the sky is the limit.
