Allen Iverson, one of the most dynamic players and personalities in NBA history, is officially set to announce his retirement. Sources say the announcement will come on October 30th, at the Philadelphia 76ers’ home opener. The former league MVP and scoring champion retires with career averages of 26.7 points per game (sixth all time), 6.2 assists, and 2.2 steals. Iverson also racked up Rookie of the Year honors in 1997, after being the #1 overall pick in the loaded 1996 NBA draft, and went on to become an 11-time All-Star.
According to David Aldridge, Iverson is set to accept a job in the Sixers organization. Also, if you’re keeping track at home, Iverson joins Jason Kidd, Grant Hill and Tracy McGrady in the club of high profile retirees in 2013, meaning the Hall of Fame will have some easy-to-tough decisions in five years.
