Rutgers will be retiring their first jersey in their school’s football history, and very fittingly it will be the #52 which was worn by Eric LeGrand. LeGrand was paralyzed while playing in a game on Oct. 16, 2010, against Army, and has been a source of motivation for millions since that day. LeGrand suffered fractures of two vertebrae and a spinal cord injury and his progress toward walking again has been well documented. The ceremony for retiring Eric LeGrand’s No. 52 will be during the Eastern Michigan game at home on Sept. 14.
Kyle Flood said LeGrand’s reaction to having his number retired was typical Eric: Coach, I was wondering when you were going to do that.

Flood said LeGrand’s number will be unretired when he walks again and that it will be a significant/special number from that point forward.

Fantastic gesture by Rutgers University.
