Every kid in the world grew up with the hypothetical “two outs, ninth inning, man on first, down by one” situation which was played out with probably a wiffle ball bat, a lack of baseball, and a home run every time. Carlos Gomez did not want that childlike scenario playing out last night in Milwaukee, much to the dismay of Joey Votto.
Down by one with two outs in the ninth (sound familiar?), Votto smashed a ball to dead center field off of reborn closer Francisco Rodriguez. Without building it up much more, just watch:
And there you have it. Votto robbed of a home run. Francisco Rodriguez gets save #303. And Carlos Gomez, who currently has the third best WAR in all of baseball, continues his MVP-caliber season. I think it’s time Gomez begins getting his due credit.
