It was just announced that hockey is coming to the Bronx. Yankee Stadium will host two NHL games in 2014, first will be the New York Rangers taking on the New Jersey Devils on Jan. 26, 12:30pm ET. Then on Jan. 29, 7:30pm ET the Rangers will face off against the New York Islanders. The New York metro area will be a sports mecca that week because besides the NHL games, Super Bowl XLVIII will be played Feb. 2 at MetLife Stadium in nearby New Jersey. These games are part of the NHL’s 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series and not the Winter Classic game, that game will be played at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings.
The iconic stadium has never hosted a hockey game, but it has had several concerts, boxing matches, Notre Dame football, and the annual Pinstripe Bowl, featuring college football teams from the American Athletic Conference formerly the Big East.
