It’s a shame the Los Angeles Clippers tanked their first round series with Memphis, because NBA fans were robbed of a potential inept coaching battle for the ages in the conference semifinals between Vinny Del Negro and Scott Brooks. Fortunately, Brooks is showing what could have been in the post-Russell Westbrook injury era, by sticking with the woeful historically awful Kendrick Perkins.
Heading into Game 4 Monday night, Thunder fans hoped Brooks would take Perkins’ 2.2 points per game (on 28% shooting), 4 rebounds, 40% turnover rate and -0.3 PER into account, and perhaps bench him in favor of players who don’t completely torpedo team production (sorry, we forgot to mention that the Thunder are -43 points per 100 possessions when Perk is on the floor). Alas, this is Scott Brooks, and, if this tweet from Darnell Mayberry is any indication, it could be another long, frustrating night for Thunder fans:
