Los Angeles Clippers owner, Black History Month expert, and all-around horrible person Donald Sterling is basking in the glory of the run-and-gun stylings of Lob City these days. But you’ll have to forgive him (just kidding…you don’t have to forgive him for anything!) if he has a bit of a pouty face this evening after a Los Angeles jury awarded a former tenant $17.3 million in a lawsuit stemming from a fire in a West Hollywood apartment building he owns.
Actress Robyn Cohen sued Sterling after the 2009 electrical fire, claiming a fire alarm horn and a dozen smoke detectors in the building didn’t work. The jury awarded Cohen $15 million in her breach-of-contract and emotional distress lawsuit on Tuesday — the other $2.3 million in general damages was awarded on Monday. Other tenants sued, but settled out of court.
