Major League Baseball is reporting a revenue stream of $7.5 billion for 2012. With the help of local broadcasting dollars and an increase in attendance, revenues are up $500 million from 2010 and 2011’s revenues of $7 billion each. While a half a billion dollars in growth is good, the MLB could see a major increase in revenue in 2014.
According to Maury Brown of the ‘Biz of Baseball,’ new television deals with FOX, ESPN and TBS – and a little help from the Dodgers – could shoot Major League Baseball’s revenues to upwards of $9 billion in 2014.
Revenues will get a further hefty bounce when the Dodgers finalize their broadcast deal which is reportedly worth $6-$7 billion. Depending on when that kicks in, it’s very possible that MLB could flirt with, or surpass, the $9 billion gross revenue plateau in a couple of years.
