Ohio State Buckeyes star running back TreVeyon Henderson has not been shy about sharing his faith in Jesus this season, and he did it during Saturday night’s playoff game in a subtle but very public way.
During the first quarter of Saturday night’s College Football Playoff showdown against the Tennessee Volunteers, TreVeyon Henderson took a handoff from quarterback Will Howard and ran 30 yards into the end zone to give Ohio State a 21-0 lead.
When he got to the end zone, Henderson performed a quick gesture that shared his faith in a small but significant way.
With the ESPN cameras pointed at him, Henderson said “Jesus loves you” in American Sign Language.

Henderson also routinely puts Bible verses on his eyeblack, such as Romans 10:9, which reads, “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Of course, this is certainly not the first time that Henderson has been outspoken about his faith. In fact, he shares his faith almost any chance he gets.
Back in August, Henderson and some of his Ohio State teammates actually led a Christian worship night and baptism service on campus that attracted more than 800 students. During the ceremony, 50 different people were baptized.
“God just started drawing people in and, you know, and we didn’t know it was going to be that many people,” Henderson told NPR.
Throughout the season, Henderson has been seen praying before and after games with both teammates and opponents. In fact, during a scuffle after the loss against rival Michigan, Henderson was praying with his teammates – something that he says would not have happened a few years ago.
“The work that God has done in my life – like, I truly am thankful that I no longer am the person that I once was, you know, that he’s transforming me and making me more like him,” Henderson said.
Henderson knows that not everyone wants to see or hear his message, but he is unbothered.
“You know, there are times where people don’t want to hear about Him. But, you know, God calls us to hear His word whether the time is favorable or whether it’s not,” Henderson said.
