Superstar defensive end Myles Garrett has been with the Cleveland Browns ever since the team selected him with the No. 1 overall pick back in 2017. But unless the Browns have a plan for becoming competitive in the next few years, it sounds like he could look to play elsewhere.
The Browns are set to miss the postseason again this year, meaning that Myles Garrett has made the playoffs only twice in his eight seasons with the team despite emerging as one of the best defensive players in the entire league, and he’s clearly not happy about it.
In his post-game press conference, Garrett made it clear that he is frustrated with the lack of success and wants to play for a winning team.
“Well, for me, I mean first of all I want to win. I want the Browns to be able to put me and us in position to win,” Garrett told reporters, according to Fox News.
Garrett also made it clear that he is not interested in being a part of a rebuilding process, either.
“I’m not trying to rebuild,” Garrett continued. “I’m trying to win right now. I want that to be apparent, when the season’s over and we have those discussions, I want them to be able to illuminate that for me, illustrate that for me, so that can be something that I can see in the near future. Because that’s all we want to do.”
When asked if he could envision playing for another team if the Browns don’t present a path toward competitiveness soon, Garrett acknowledged that while he prefers to stay in Cleveland.
However, he certainly did not rule out the possibility if the team is looking at more of a long-term rebuilding process.
“I mean, it’s a possibility, but I want to be a Cleveland Brown,” he said. “I want to play here, play my career here. But if we choose to do a rebuild and it’s two, three, four years out, I want to be able to compete and play at a high level, play meaningful games and be playing past January.”
Garrett is under contract with the Browns through 2026, but that doesn’t rule out the possibility of him requesting a trade before then.
