It’s been another rough year for the Cleveland Browns, who have once again missed the playoffs. And it’s pretty clear that star defensive end Myles Garrett is not happy with the losing seasons.
Since he joined the team as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Myles Garrett has emerged as one of the most dominant pass rushers in the NFL, winning the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award last season.
But with the Browns set to miss the postseason yet again this year, Garrett has only made the playoffs twice in his eight seasons with the Browns, and it’s clear that he is not happy about that and does not want to be a part of a team that is not competitive in the near future.
During his press conference after the game, Garrett made it very clear that while he would be open to remaining with the Browns, he does not want to be a part of a team rebuild.
“Well, for me, I mean first of all I want to win. I want the Browns to be able to put me and us in position to win,” Garrett told reporters according to Fox News.
“I’m not trying to rebuild,” Garrett continued. “I’m trying to win right now. I want that to be apparent, when the season’s over and we have those discussions, I want them to be able to illuminate that for me, illustrate that for me, so that can be something that I can see in the near future. Because that’s all we want to do.”
Garrett was then asked whether or not he could see himself playing with another franchise if the Browns do not illustrate a path toward being competitive in the near future.
While Garrett would like to remain with the Browns, he did acknowledge that he could choose to play elsewhere if the team is looking at a rebuilding process.
“I mean, it’s a possibility, but I want to be a Cleveland Brown,” he said. “I want to play here, play my career here. But if we choose to do a rebuild and it’s two, three, four years out, I want to be able to compete and play at a high level, play meaningful games and be playing past January.”
Garrett is under contract until 2026, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t seek a trade from the team before then.
