The Ohio State Buckeyes were left stunned after losing to their archrival Michigan Wolverines at home despite entering the game as 20-point favorites. Luckily for the Buckeyes, they’re still all but guaranteed to make the expanded 12-team college football playoff.

However, they’re going to have to get the ship right without one of their most important players.

“Ohio State offensive tackle Josh Simmons has declared for the NFL draft. Simmons had season-ending knee surgery after the Oregon game, but his new agent Drew Rosenhaus said surgery went well and he’s already ahead of schedule with his rehab. “Josh will be fully cleared for practice by the start of NFL training camp and he will be a high first-round pick,” said Rosenhaus, who will represent Simmons along with Robert Bailey and Oliver Chell,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“Was having a very strong season before his injury. OSU was probably hoping that he might consider returning with the injury,” one fan said on social media.

“I believe that will be written on Drew’s headstone. ‘My player is already ahead of Schedule with his Rehab,'” another fan added.

“Wishing Josh Simmons a speedy recovery and all the best in the NFL draft! It’s great to hear he’s ahead of schedule with his rehab. Excited to see him in action next season!” one fan added.

“What a W for Josh Simmons, he is definitely the future star,” one fan added.

“That’s great news for Josh Simmons and his fans! Despite the season ending knee surgery, it’s impressive that he’s ahead of schedule with his rehab,” one fan added.

“Guess he ain’t wasting no more time potentially injuring himself before he hits the NFL smart,” added someone else.

“Don’t be surprised when he first OT off the board,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see where Simmons is drafted.
