It has not exactly been a great season for the Chicago Bears and rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, and one prominent NFL insider seems to think the team could be on the verge of making a change at quarterback.
The Chicago Bears have struggled on the offensive side of the football recently, failing to even score a touchdown the past two weeks as they’ve not lost three consecutive games.
As a result of those struggles, NFL insider Adam Schefter believes that the team is considering benching Caleb Williams.
During an appearance on The Pat McAfee show on Monday afternoon, Adam Schefter said that he believes there will be “some sort of change” on the offensive side of the football that could include benching the rookie quarterback.
“Is that changing the play-caller? Is that changing the quarterback and benching Caleb William for Tyson Bagent?” Schefter asked.
“I think all these things are being discussed in the building today, and ultimately the organization has to figure out what is the best course of action for this franchise moving forward,” he continued.
Needless to say, this possibility led to a lot of reactions on social media.
“Adam Schefter mentions that the Bears could consider benching Caleb Williams for Tyson Bagent. Let me be clear: Caleb has been really bad since the bye week, but if this organization pins the struggles on this kid, I will have a meltdown,” Harrison Brown of ChatSports wrote.
“When you leave the wrong people in charge, you allow them to try and save their jobs — even if their choices are ridiculous. Schefter speculating that Caleb might get benched is exactly what you worry about when they don’t fire deserving coaches. So much for ‘stability,'” Robert Schmitz of Da Bears Blog wrote.
“How do I detach myself from this franchise?” another fan added.
“I’m okay with benching him in the scenario we fire Eberflus and don’t want to make him learn 3 offenses within 1 year and not ruin his development for the rest of the season. But if we’re using him as a scapegoat I might actually switch fanbases,” another fan said.
“If you have to have the conversation of benching the qb to protect him then you absolutely need to fire some of the coaches because they aren’t doing their jobs,” another fan added.
We’ll have to see whether or not the team does indeed decide to bench Williams.
