The Colorado Buffaloes have been appointment viewing since Deion Sanders took over as the head coach, but his otherworldly presence may have made the lights too bright for some members of his family.
The Buffs lost 31-28 to the Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday. It marked the first return to game action for Sanders’ son, Shilo Sanders, after going gown earlier in the season with an arm injury that required surgery.
Deion Sanders was brutally honest in discussing his son’s role in Saturday’s defeat.
“I thought he played horrible,” Sanders said, per On3.
“I thought he was rusty. I thought he didn’t have his footing. I thought he wasn’t breaking down. He was coming up trying to make the play but open field, one-on-one tackle, with that kind of back, that ain’t an easy task. But, he’s gonna do better. I know what he has in him.”
Even though he wasn’t pleased with Shilo’s performance, the head coach felt like the team did enough overall to win the game.
“Sometimes when you lose, you go, ‘Dang, we should’ve won that. We should’ve had that,’” he said. “(Tonight) was one of those games… for us, we felt like we let that one slip away. And we have to do a better job of taking advantage of opportunities we had to win the game because we had several.”
It’s a tough loss for the Buffs, who are in the midst of a tight Big 12 race. If Colorado can regroup and find their way into the Big 12 championship, they’ll still have a chance to make the new look 12-team College Football Playoff.
