The Dallas Cowboys are drowning under head coach Mike McCarthy.
The Cowboys were blown out in their own stadium on Sunday, falling to the Detroit Lions 47-9, and dropping to 3-3 on the season. The loss was so bad that it left many wondering if the Cowboys head coach will finish the year with the team, or be fired in an attempt to salvage Dallas’ playoff chances.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones answered questions about whether he’d thought about moving on from McCarthy in the wake of the team’s struggles.
“Oh, I haven’t even considered that,” Jones told the media after the loss. “I’m not considering that. Just so you’re clear, I’m not considering that.”
Just the idea of making a change at head coach seemed to set the 82-year-old off.
“That would be a hypothetical. In that matter, do you think I’m an idiot? Do you?” Jones asked, clearly upset.
“Ok. Well, I’m not going to hypothetical with you about would I consider a coaching change in light of the timing we’re sitting here with. I’m not. At all.”
Here’s my exchange with Jerry Jones asking what it would take for him to consider a coaching change.
The last & only time he fired a coach mid-season? Wade Phillips, after he lost by 38 points to Mike McCarthy’s Packers.

Jones is standing by McCarhty for now, but the wheels are coming off fast in Dallas. If ownership remains so clearly unhappy, heads are bound to start rolling soon.
