The Seattle Seahawks fell to the Detroit Lions on Monday night, and it clearly taught first-year head coach Mike Macdonald something about his team.
The Seahawks lost 42-29 in what was a dominant performance from the Lions and quarterback Jared Goff, and it left Macdonald facing reality a little bit after the game.
During his postgame press conference, Macdonald did not hold back as he made it clear that the team simply is not good enough at this point in the season.
“I wouldn’t say it’s a litmus test, it just shows us we’re not the team that we need to be at this point,” Macdonald said.
“I mean, that’s just — that’s what it is. Just wasn’t good enough. They did what they did to win the game, they did a great job, they had a great plan, and we came up short.
“So, it’s, how do we move forward right now as a football team and take the next step because we’ve got a short week coming up and there’s urgency — I mean, there’s always an urgency, but we’ve got to go to work here over the next few days and make this right.”
Macdonald praised the players, saying they “fought the heck out of that game,” but it clearly wasn’t good enough.
We’ll have to see whether or not the Seahawks can improve as the season goes on.
