Texas Longhorns‘ young star quarterback Arch Manning was thrust into action for the Longhorns this weekend after starting quarterback Quinn Ewers left the game with an injury. And after a dominant performance, his Heisman Trophy odds have radically improved.
As Fox Sports points out, Arch Manning entered the game as a longshot to content for college football’s top trophy, but now he’s among some of the favorites.
“Manning was +15000 heading into the weekend and has skyrocketed all the way down to +1600,” Fox Sports reported on Sunday.
“Ewers entered the week as the favorite to win the award at +500, but is now off the board for the time being. The new favorite is Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward, who finished with 346 pass yards and five touchdown passes in a 62-0 thrashing against Ball State.”
Manning the seventh-best odds to win the Heisman Trophy, behind Cam Ward at Miami, Jaxson Dart at Ole Miss, Jalen Milroe of Alabama, Nico Iamaleava of Tennessee, Dillon Gabriel of Oregon and Carson Beck of Georgia.
Needless to say, this news led to a lot of reactions on social media.
“Not that far stretched if Ewers injury is serious,” one fan said.
“They aren’t dumb enough to let those kind of odds stay up,” another fan said.
“Just how wild is the Arch Manning hype train? This UTSA game isn’t even over, and ESPN sends out a note saying Manning’s Heisman odds have gone from 150-1 to 20-1. Wild, man,” Texas Longhorns reporter Brian Davis said.
“Y’all need to slow your roll. He’s gonna be great, but it’s UTSA,” another fan said.
The nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, Arch Manning was the top quarterback prospect in the 2023 high school recruiting class, but hasn’t seen the field much up to this point with Ewers holding the starting role.
It’s not clear how long Ewers will be sidelined, but Manning made the most of his chance to play on Saturday, finishing with 223 passing yards, four touchdown passes, and 53 rushing yards after a long touchdown run.
