NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson is widely known for sharing his opinions in a quirky manner on Twitter, the social media platform currently marketed as X.

The Los Angeles Lakers legend did just that this week when he praised Barack and Michelle Obama for their speeches at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois.

“The Obamas electrified the crowd for the Harris/Walz campaign heading into the election and both focused on reasons why Kamala Harris will be a strong President. What a special and phenomenal night for the 2024 Democratic National Convention!” Johnson wrote on X.

The praise didn’t stop there, either. In a following post, Johnson declared that the Obamas gave “the best political speeches in the history of our country.”

Johnson wrote, “Former President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama gave the best political speeches in history of our country. The powerful couple talked about working class families, family values, and moving the country forward – together. They were powerful, intelligent, compassionate, and sealed with integrity.”

Obviously, that’s an entirely subjective opinion. While the Obamas are certainly talented orators, there are arguments for other speeches having a more significant impact on America’s political landscape throughout the history of our country.

Many X users pushed back on Johnson’s opinion.

“The entire campaign is predicated on words. When will y’all come back to your senses. Words produce nothing. Well I take that back they can produce 2 things. Hatred and division. But that be it,” wrote one user.

“This is such a disappointing tweet,” wrote another verified user.

“Lots of respect for you Magic…” wrote another former fan.
