Earlier this year, transgender women’s golfer Hailey Davidson nearly made history by becoming the first transgender golfer to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Open. She has received a lot of criticism for competing against other women as a transgender woman, and she clapped back at many of those critics this week.

In a post on Instagram this week, Hailey Davidson called out some of her critics and fellow competitors as she made it clear that she does not think other competitors should be blaming transgender athletes for “their own athletic failures.”

“I will never understand athletes who blame a transgender competitor on their own athletic failures,” Davidson wrote in her post on social media according to Fox News. “If you don’t take accountability for your failures then you will never actually be good enough to make it.”

Davidson was named the first alternate for the U.S. Women’s Open back in May and would have made history as the first transgender athlete ever to compete in the event, but never got the chance to compete at the major.

Davidson will be competing in Q School, which begins later this month. It could be an avenue for Davidson to make history and qualify for the LPGA Tour.
