On Sunday, Dallas Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams was carted off the practice field with a knee injury, and it does not sound like he’s expected to get good news.
According to a report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Sam Williams is “feared” to have suffered a torn ACL, which would end his 2024 season before it even begins.
“Cowboys DE Sam Williams is feared to have torn his ACL in practice today, sources tell me and [Ian Rapoport]. He’ll have an MRI to confirm. A tough blow early in camp,” Pelissero said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

While Williams was not necessarily a starter or a first-team player last season, he was certainly a key contributor on the defensive side of the ball. Williams appeared in every single game for the Cowboys last year, finishing with the season with 4.5 sacks, 48 tackles, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and 16 quarterback hits.
Needless to say, this is a pretty terrible turn of events for both Williams and the Cowboys, especially considering the Cowboys do not have a lot of proven depth at the defensive tackle position heading into this season.
