Texas Longhorns young star quarterback Arch Manning is one of the most marketable players in the country when it comes to his name, image, and likeness. But before his freshman season began, Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian indicated that Manning would not be taking any NIL deals until he earned the starting role. However, it seems that’s not actually what has happened.
In April of 2023, Steve Sarkisian claimed that former NFL quarterback Archie Manning – the grandfather of Arch Manning – would not let his grandson accept any NIL deals until he earned the starting job with the Longhorns.
“His grandpa (former NFL quarterback Archie Manning) won’t let him take any NIL money,” Sarkisian said according to USA Today. “He said, ‘You can take money when you become a player and you start.’ ”
However, that is not what has happened.
According to NFL insider Pete Nakos of On3, Arch Manning has accepted an NIL deal that will pay him between $50,000 and $60,000 to appear in and promote the upcoming EA Sports College Football video game.

Needless to say, it sounds like he isn’t actually waiting until he earns the starting role to accept NIL money, and he got called out for it.
