Serena Williams is pretty unanimously considered the greatest and most accomplished women’s tennis player of all time. But it sounds like she might not think she has what it takes to be an elite tennis coach for her young daughters – but she knows her father does.
During a recent interview, Serena Williams was asked about the budding athletic career of her 6-year-old daughter, Olympia. When discussing the potential she sees in Olympia, Williams admitted that while she is trying to help guide her daughter herself, her father is a much stricter coach than she is, saying “I’m too nice.”
“I can see how my dad may have seen some potential in us. I’m just trying to figure out a way to harness all that. I already told my dad, ‘Maybe you have to coach her, because I’m too nice,'” Williams said according to Fox News.’
Serena’s father Richard Williams helped train both Serena and her sister Venus when they were young, helping spark their dominant professional careers despite a modest upbringing. He was the subject of a recent film called King Richard in which he was portrayed by actor Will Smith.
Richard Williams clearly did a good job with Serena and Venus, and it sounds like Serena might be entrusted Olympia’s training to him, as well.
