During Sunday afternoon’s duel between Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau in the final round of the U.S. Open, it was pretty clear who the Donald Trump supporters were backing as McIlroy has previously been very critical of Trump while DeChambeau has a very warm relationship with the former president.

Back in 2020, Rory McIlroy blasted Donald Trump for his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic while also claiming that he would never play golf with him ever again. DeChambeau, meanwhile, has spoken highly of the former president and regularly plays golf with him even to this day.

As a result, Trump supporters were clearly cheering against McIlroy in the final round of the U.S. Open on Sunday afternoon and were delighted when he ultimately missed two putts in the final round that allowed DeChambeau to pass him on the leaderboard and claim the championship.

And those Trump supporters took to social media to blast McIlroy during and after the final round on Sunday.

Trump himself was also quite pleased that DeChambeau ultimately won the championship as he reacted with a lengthy congratulatory message for the LIV Golf star that also seemed to have a few not-so-subtle jabs at McIlroy throughout the message.
