During Sunday afternoon’s game between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky, Angel Reese was called for a flagrant foul on her on-court rival Caitlin Clark when she hit Clark in the head with her elbow on a layup attempt. And Fever head coach Christie Sides seems to think that was the correct call.
During her postgame press conference, Christie Sides made it very clear that she supported the decision from the referees, applauding them for making the correct call in that situation.
“The right call was made in that moment — flagrant 1,” Sides said according to ESPN. “Just make the right call in those moments and we can move forward. But when you don’t make the right call in those moments, that’s when there’s a problem. And they made the right call tonight.”
Reese, meanwhile, downplayed the call, calling it a “basketball play” as she criticized the referees after the game.
“I can’t control the refs,” she said. “They affected the game a lot tonight. … I’m always going for the ball. But y’all going to play that clip 20 times before Monday.”
Ultimately, the Fever came away with the Victory in the game, beating the Sky by a final score of 91-82.
