The Texas Longhorns boast one of the most talented rosters in college football. It’s been quite a while since we could say that confidently, but after an impressive 2023 season, Texas is ready to compete again. A move to the SEC won’t intimidate the Longhorns, who figure to be one of the teams to beat this year. While Quinn Ewers will lead the group, his understudy Arch Manning also has plenty of attention on himself.
Manning’s position on the depth chart has led some to wonder if he should transfer from Texas. While that chatter has existed, Manning’s family appears against it, and Arch has also commented on the matter before. So has head coach Steve Sarkisian.
Texas great Colt McCoy emerged this weekend to not only support Manning sitting behind Ewers but McCoy also suggested that he can use it to his advantage. Sitting behind Manning and staying in Sarkisian’s system can help to “maximize” the young quarterback’s abilities, the Longhorns legend argued.

“I think from Arch’s perspective … if I’m a high school quarterback if I’m growing up in Texas, there’s one place I wanna go. I wanna play for Coach Sark,” McCoy said. “I think Arch recognizes that.”
“Arch is saying, ‘Yeah I’m very comfortable here, where I’m at,'” McCoy argued. “‘Yeah we all want to play but I’m learning, I’m growing so that when the ball’s in my hands when I get out there, I trust the system.'”
We won’t see Manning play in 2024 unless Ewers goes down with an injury. But expect many mountains of hype to surround him and the Longhorns come 2025.
