The 2024 NBA Finals have swung in the favor of the Boston Celtics. However, a disruption might have emerged in the wait for Game 3. Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis and his presence have been a huge factor in the series, arguably swinging the pendulum completely in Boston’s favor.
But now Porzingis may miss Game 3 of the 2024 Finals. The Dallas Mavericks, down 0-2, may face a Porzingis-less Celtics team because of a rare injury he suffered in Game 2.
Jared Weiss, an NBA reporter, posted on X that Boston announced that Porzingis suffered a “torn medial retinaculum allowing dislocation of the posterior tibialis tendon in his left leg at 3:27 of the third quarter of Game 2. They say the injury is unrelated to Porzingis’ prior right calf injury.”

Weiss added that Porzingis is likely to be listed as ‘day-to-day’ for the remainder of the NBA Finals due to this injury. The former lottery pick proved to be a major difference-maker in Game 1, and if Boston were to lose his presence, that would also prove to be a difference maker. But in the opposite way for the Celtics.
