Jordan Love ignited a debate all weekend over a recent comment that the Green Bay Packers quarterback made. As the Packers begin another season with Love at the helm, the team has a lot of budding young talent. Thus far, though, the team hasn’t seen an emerging talent as the team’s “No. 1” receiver at wide receiver.
Love doesn’t necessarily buy into that being a big deal.
The Packers quarterback believes that not having a true No. 1 wide receiver can be a benefit for the Packers. Love explained his rationale to the Packers’ official website.
“I think you don’t have to have a No. 1 receiver. I think it works out well when you can spread the ball out, and you got different guys making different plays, and you can put ’em in different areas,” Love said via Packers.com.
Love emphasized that he thinks that it “puts a lot more stress on the defense” without a No. 1 guy present.
The Packers quarterback has plenty of reason to think this. He obviously draws from his own experience, and not having a definitive No. 1 didn’t hold back his development last year. With Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and others, the Packers put together a strong season offensively. All told, it sure seems like development there is going well.
That said, NFL fans had fun debating Love’s comments all weekend. Reactions from all sides were present, and both sides of the debate were heard.
My QB perfectly explains both why I LOVE this young WR core and why I think it is a HUGE / RISKY gamble to draft any one of Watson, Doubs, Reed, or Wicks in a fantasy draft this year. Too much talent at the position for any one guy to consistently stand out above the rest https://t.co/LgzvB1DqGH

I agree with this. Packers WR aren’t super stacked but they all have talent and Love knows how to find them. https://t.co/i7fz1zkmrW

I’ve surveyed all 32 NFL Defensive Coordinators and I can confirm their biggest fear is facing an Offense that DOES NOT have a #1 Wide Receiver https://t.co/2f7GSIUX4E

This is what you say when you don’t have a No. 1 WR. https://t.co/FQDHVwPNDw

Having someone like Tyreek Hill or Jordan Jefferson, plus a couple of these guys, would stress defenses even more https://t.co/0r0WJb4ios
