After parting ways with former starting quarterback Russell Wilson this offseason, the Denver Broncos and head coach Sean Payton are in search of a new starter this offseason, and it sounds like it’s a three-player race for now.
The Denver Broncos return Jarrett Stidham, who took over for Russell Wilson when he was benched last year, and added former New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson during free agency and Bo Nix in the NFL Draft. And Sean Payton made it clear that for now, the reps are being split up among them as each quarterback gets a chance.
“We try to split up all the reps,” Payton said according to ESPN. “There’s going to be a time when you read into the reps, I don’t think it’s early in OTAs. It’s kind of the orphan group, they’re all orphan dogs. They’ve come from somewhere, but they’re doing good. It’s a good room.”
Payton will obviously have to make a decision on which one will be the starter and the pecking order after that, but for now he just wants to see them all get as many reps as possible.
“We go by what we see. We try to get them as many reps as possible. We rotate. We’re rotating all of them right now. They’re all in a race to learn this system. Man, they’re doing well.’’
We’ll have to see who emerges from the group.
