Monaco midfielder Mohamed Camara made a pretty controversial move against the LGBTQ community this week when he publicly snubbed French football’s annual anti-homophobia initiative in multiple different ways.
The anti-homophobia initiative included a small LFP logo on shirt sleeves in rainbow colors as well as badges showing the campaign logo of the word ‘Homophobie’ with a red cross through it. However, according to a report from Outsports, Mohamed Camara refused to wear the logos and the anti-homophobia patches on his jersey, instead putting tape over them to cover them up. He also refused to stand for a photograph behind the anti-homophobia logo before the match.
“Camara, a 24-year-old Mali international, showed total disregard for this anti-discrimination drive even before kick-off at the Stade Louis II when he refused to stand with players from both teams behind the campaign logo for a pre-match photo,” Jon Holmes wrote for Outsports.
“Fans then quickly spotted that the former Red Bull Salzburg star was playing with black tape over the rainbow LFP logo on his sleeve, and white tape over the campaign logo on the front of his jersey.”
It’s a pretty clear move against the LGBTQ community and goes against what the initiative was trying to promote.
