Back in December of last year, golf superstar Jon Rahm decided to leave the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf for an absolutely massive cash signing bonus. But in a pretty shocking twist, he doesn’t seem to think that he ever actually left the PGA Tour.
Ahead of the PGA Championship this weekend at Valhalla, Jon Rahm was asked several questions regarding the rivalry between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour, and he made it pretty clear that he still sees himself as a member of the PGA Tour and that he still supports the Tour.
“See you guys keep saying ‘the other side’ but I’m still a PGA Tour member, whether suspended or not,” Rahm said. “I still want to support the PGA Tour. And I think that’s an important distinction to make. I don’t feel like I’m on the other side. I’m just not playing there. That’s at least personally.”
Technically, Rahm is correct in that his PGA Tour membership was not canceled, he was simply suspended as an active player. But it is a little shocking to hear him talk so fondly about the tour that he chose to leave and insist that he is not actually “on the other side.”
