Earlier this year, former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel took a stand for fellow Heisman winner Reggie Bush, declaring that he would not participate in the Heisman Trophy Ceremony until Bush’s Heisman Trophy was reinstated. And it didn’t take long for that to happen.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Heisman Trophy Trust announced that Reggie Bush would have his 2005 Heisman Trophy reinstated after it was initially stripped from him back in 2010 due to impermissible benefits he received at USC.
“Thank you to the @HeismanTrophy for doing what’s right and welcoming a storied member of our history back into the fold. There were many voices throughout this process that stood on the table for Reggie simply because of the kind of human being he is. I look forward to being on that stage with you this December @ReggieBush you deserve it,” Manziel said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

The decision from the Heisman Trophy Trust comes after the NCAA changed its policy and allowed athletes to profit from their name, image, and likeness, allowing players to make money similarly to how Bush did at USC.
“Recognizing that the compensation of student athletes is an accepted practice and appears here to stay, these fundamental changes in college athletics led the Trust to decide that now is the right time to return the Trophy to Bush, who unquestionably was the most outstanding college football player of 2005,” the Heisman Trophy Trust said.
And it sounds like Manziel is supportive of this decision.
